General Discussion / Refit almost complete
« Last post by Mike Zofchak on July 11, 2020, 01:25:14 pm »
Hello All,

Attached please find the photo of the Erie Queen (formally Buckeye Queen) finally sailing after extensive refit.

We started about 11 years ago working part time on her. She had sunk at the dock on the Potomac River in Washington DC before we purchased her and was then moved to Sandusky, OH on Lake Erie. Every system has been replaced including engine, electrical, plumbing all rigging, sails, etc., etc., etc. The interior, deck, bottom, etc., etc., etc. has been varnished, painted, barrier coated. Way too many things to list here. She is now ready for another 40+ years of sailing.

As many on this site know it is defiantly a labor of love and to go on the first sail, well you all know!!! This site and members have been a VERY valuable tool during this process.

Thanks to all that contribute and keep this site running.

I think you are figuring right.once the water level reaches the vent then your trying to push water out the vent. Maybe a small tube on top with a T to the larger vent.my tanks are aluminum did yours come in fiberglass fron the factory?

I finally found the listing.  It was listed a few years ago at $120K, now it's listed for $59,000.  Big drop!
https://yachtworld.com/boats/1989/antigua-csy-44-3247730/  If it is in great shape that's a helluva price. But...

Interesting that the best photos of the boat in the listing (the first and last one) show the name as Camperdown, which is the old name under a prior owner, so you can be assured that those beautiful pictures on the listing with the shiny hull and sails are NOT CURRENT.

That is the first "buyer beware" flag.

The deck is still teak and in fairly bad shape.  By now most people have pulled up their teak decks and fiberglassed the deck.  Teak decks are beautiful when new, but they tend to leak.

You need to ask about the rigging.  When was it last re-rigged?

The layout looks identical to a Walkthrough, and that was our boat.  It's a great layout.  I don't know a lot about Antigua construction, though.

Make sure you get a survey!

Good luck!

Are you buying Serenity?
I have a list of 44 Antiguas that hasn't been updated in a few years.
Attached as a PDF file.
Looks like there was one more made after #16 called Una Mas.

Hello - I have a contract on an Antigua 44, which I am aware is not quite a CSY, but hope to learn something here :)

I have been told there were 15 produced and the last was in 1989.  Is there a record of which ones were produced in which years?  The one I am looking at is the last one built (ominous) and it would be important for me to know how many were made in 1989.

Why is the resale market so terrible for the Antiguas?

In there a market for a well appointed, well maintained one?  In other words, would your concerns about the Antigua be calmed by a competant owner, with a maitenance schedule/records and updates to support a boat in 'above average condition'.

Thanks!

The last info I have on that boat was in 2010.  The boat was named Hellenic Spirit and the owner's name was Angelos Axiomakaros, based in St. Pete.  Sorry no contact info, but you may be able to find him online or in the Phone Book.

I know 2 other (former) PH owners.  If I can find email addresses for them, I'll PM you that info.  I don't think either is still active on this site.  You might also browse through this site:  http://memoryrose.blogspot.com/  and/or try to contact Ron Sheridan via that mechanism.
